Nossa Senhora Da Assunção De Tabosa Monastery

It was the last Cistercian monastery to be founded in Portugal. Integrated in the Douro nucleus of the monasteries and convents of the Cistercian Order, in the southern end of the Varosa valley, and located in the so-called "Terras do Demo", it maintains the spirit of silence and recollection of its foundation.

It is a building of Jewish origin that stands out for its lion of Judah carved in high-relief on the facade. The name "Black Cat" comes from the fact that inside it has a sculpture that reminds the animal, carved in the lintel of a door. It has the characteristics of a Jewish commercial dwelling. It is supposed to have been a synagogue.

Cellars founded more than 50 years ago in a property with over 30 hectares. The sparkling wines are produced from the noblest grape varieties such as Malvasia Fina, Gouveio Real, Cerceal, Chardonnay, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Pinot Noir. The lighter, more intense wines result from the Malvasia Fina, Cerceal, Gouveio Real, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca varietals. These cellars are carved in the rock, in blue granite, reaching a depth of 72 meters.

Nossa Senhora Dos Remédios Sanctuary

Dating from 1738, this is a Holy Mount, of Italian influence, affiliated to the Sanctuary of the Bom Jesus de Braga. It consists of a monumental staircase, of great panoramic effect, with converging and diverging flights, animated with decorative vases, statues and symbolic fountains.

This castle, built on top of an ancient Lusitanian fortress, was fortified by the Romans. From the primitive castle we can highlight the citadel, with the keep, the vaulted cistern and two gates, the Porta dos Fogos and the Porta do Sol, which define the wall structure of the old town. The cistern is located close to a section of wall. During the XVI and XVII centuries its tower served as the Town Hall. The Porta do Sol (Sun's Gate), with an 18th century window dating from 1642, stands out.
